Showtime's Halo series will not begin production until later this year, with actors such as Natascha McElhone and Bokeem Woodbine enlisted. While expanding the main cast and setting a production date is a step forward for the film adaptation, the bad news is that the release has been pushed back from 2020 to the first quarter of 2021.

A live action adaptation of Halo is a long-term goal for Microsoft. The film was originally announced in 2005 with Peter Jackson as executive producer. But a year later, the project closed due to budgetary problems. The current series has been in production since at least 2014.
