The President of Russia approved the law on the "sovereign Internet"

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the so-called “sovereign Internet” law, designed to ensure stable operation of the Russian segment of the World Wide Web in any conditions.

As we have Reported, the initiative is aimed at protecting the Runet from fatal failures in the event of attempts to restrict its functioning from abroad. For example, in the USA there are a number of laws allowing such measures.

It is with the aim of ensuring the safe and stable operation of the Internet in Russia that a new law was developed. Previously, it was approved by the Federation Council, and now Vladimir Putin has put his signature on the document.

Federal Law No. 01.05.2019-FZ dated May 90, XNUMX “On Amendments to the Federal Law “On Communications” and the Federal Law “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection”” has already published on the Official Internet Portal of Legal Information.

The law defines the necessary rules for routing traffic, organizes control over their compliance, and also creates the opportunity to minimize the transfer abroad of data exchanged between Russian users.

The document “establishes requirements for the functioning of communication network management systems in the event of threats to the stability, security and integrity of the functioning of the information and telecommunications network Internet and public communication networks on the territory of the Russian Federation.”

At the same time, telecom operators must install specialized technical means in their networks designed to ensure stable operation of the Internet in Russia in the event of external threats.
