The President of the United States is not a fan of Bitcoin and is opposed to cryptocurrencies

US President Donald Trump took some of his time to announce to the world that he is not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies because their value is very volatile and resembles a soap bubble. In a series of tweets, Mr. Trump expanded on his thoughts on cryptocurrencies by stating that Facebook's recently announced Libra will have a dubious reputation and credibility, and that the company should get a bank charter and be regulated like any other traditional financial institution.

By the way, on this issue, the opinion of the US president coincides with the opposition Democratic Party, whose members officially last week asked Facebook stop the implementation of plans regarding Libra in order to properly investigate the risks to the global financial system.

Naturally, Donald Trump ended his conversation about cryptocurrencies with branded words in praise of the dollar: “We only have one real currency in the US, and it is stronger than ever, it is trusted and reliable. It is by far the world's dominant currency and will always remain so. It's called the US dollar.

Whatever the source of Trump’s sudden distrust of cryptocurrencies, the altright movement is unlikely to like it. It has quite a lot of libertarians and broader anti-government forces sympathetic to cryptocurrencies. For example, popular right-wing commentator Mike Cernovich wrote in response to Trump's tweets, "This is a serious mistake on your part and shows a lack of vision."
