Amazon's net profit in the reporting period amounted to $3,6 billion. For the same period a year earlier, this figure reached $1,6 billion. The company's sales in the first quarter increased by 17%, amounting to $59,7 billion in monetary terms.

Amazon Web Services' profit amounted to $7,7 billion, an increase of 41% compared to the first quarter of 2018. Operating income for the cloud business was $2,2 billion. The segment's significant growth comes as AWS continues to be popular among enterprises looking to move their workloads to the cloud. Company representatives say that Amazon's cloud business is expected to continue to grow in the near future.

In North America, Amazon sales grew by 17%, reaching $35,8 billion, and operating profit amounted to $2,3 billion. International business in the reporting period brought in $16,2 billion, and the operating loss was $90 million.

Another source of the company's income that is showing good growth rates is associated with advertising services, which are not allocated to the official Amazon business segment. In the first quarter, the business generated $2,7 billion in net profit, showing growth of 34%.
