Let me briefly remind you what the problems are, because of which I had to test applications in order to compile a list of applications suitable for installation on e-books (βreadersβ).
Basically, these problems are that, firstly, there is no Google Play application store on modern e-books; and secondly, and it would be of little help, since many applications are not compatible with electronic books in terms of hardware or software. Finding something that is more or less workable was the task of testing.
Now we turn directly to the materials of today's (3rd) part of the article.
The application description contains the following information:
- name (exactly as it appears in the Google Play store; even if it contains spelling or stylistic errors);
- developer (sometimes applications with the same name can be released by different developers);
- purpose of the application;
- required version of Android;
- link to the ready-made APK installation file, checked in the McCenter;
- a link to this application in the Google Play store (for a more detailed acquaintance with the application and reviews; you can not download the APK file there);
- link to download the APK installation file of the application from an alternative source (if any);
- a note indicating possible features of the application;
- some screenshots of the running application.
Let's start with alternative dictionaries.
Alternative dictionaries are understood as those dictionaries that are not pre-installed on e-books, but are freely distributed as applications for Android OS devices.
At the same time, it should be noted that many e-books already contain a small number of pre-installed dictionaries. Thanks to this, as a rule, there are no problems with translation from Russian into English and vice versa (but not always).
But there are not only Russian and English languages ββin the world; and dictionaries as such exist not only for translation: dictionaries are spelling, explanatory, encyclopedic and others. This is where the installation of external dictionaries will help us.
In fairness, it must be said that there is another method for installing dictionaries - from a set of dictionary files in the format that this or that e-book βunderstandsβ (apps from Google Play have nothing to do with it at all).
But one method does not exclude the other, so the owner of the book just needs to choose a more convenient and affordable solution for himself.
Many of the dictionaries in the above list are integrated into the system, i.e. function not only independently, but can also be called directly from the readable text along with the e-book's own dictionaries (it is necessary to check in each case separately).
