Linux boot issue on Intel NUC7PJYH after BIOS update 0058

Owners of an Intel NUC7PJYH mini-computer based on an ex-Atom Intel Pentium J5005 Gemini Lake CPU encountered problems running Linux and Unix-like operating systems after updating the BIOS to version 0058. Until using BIOS 0057, there were no problems running Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD (there was a separate problem with OpenBSD), but after updating the BIOS to version 0058 on this computer, due to an ACPI problem, it crashed when using Linux and Unix-like operating systems. Licensed Windows 10 worked fine on this computer.

A bug report was published on the official Intel NUC forum in mid-January 2021. The error was confirmed by about ten users who encountered a similar problem after the update. Intel removed version 0058 from the Software Download Center and suggested replacing the hardware or waiting for a BIOS update. On February 25, 2021, the Intel NUC forum announced the appearance of a new BIOS, which is still available to a limited number of beta testers. If test participants confirm the solution to the problem, the new BIOS version will soon be available to everyone.
