Strategy Analytics released its latest forecast for the global 5G smartphone market, showing explosive growth in shipments of XNUMXG devices despite a contraction in the overall cellular sector.
It is estimated that approximately 18,2 million 5G smartphones were shipped globally last year. In 2020, experts believe, deliveries will exceed a quarter of a billion pieces, reaching 251 million. If these expectations are justified, the growth on an annualized basis will be 1282%.
At the end of this year, two-thirds of the global 5G smartphone market will be occupied by three companies - Samsung, Huawei and Apple. In the coming years, 5G-enabled devices will continue to be the main driver of the industry.
If we consider the smartphone market as a whole, then in 2020 sales, according to forecasts by Strategy Analytics, will amount to 1,26 billion units. Thus, the fall in relation to 2019 will be very noticeable - approximately 11%.
However, next year the global industry will return to growth. Deliveries, according to experts, will rise by 9%, reaching about 1,4 billion units. Growth will be fueled by the spread of 5G networks and the release of more affordable smartphones with support for these networks.
