International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that the European smart home market is seeing significant growth.

In the last quarter of 2018, European consumers purchased about 33,0 million smart home products. We are talking about smart lighting devices, smart speakers, security and video surveillance systems, various entertainment gadgets, etc. The growth was 15,1% year on year.

It is especially noted that the supply of "smart" speakers with a voice assistant is breaking records. Their sales volume jumped year on year by 22,9%, reaching 7,5 million units. European consumers prefer smart speakers with Amazon Alexa (59,8%) and Google Assistant (30,7%).

At the end of 2018, sales of devices for a modern smart home in Europe reached 88,8 million units. This is almost a quarter - 23,1% - more than the result of 2017.

It is noted that in total sales last year, video entertainment devices accounted for 54,3 million units, or 61,2% of total shipments of smart home products. Another 16,1 million units, or 18,1%, were smart speakers.

Analysts at IDC predict that in 2023 the volume of the European market for smart home devices will reach 187,2 million units.
