The Pale Moon project has succeeded in stopping the development of the Mypal browser

The author of the Mypal web browser, which develops a fork of Pale Moon for the Windows XP platform, created after the termination of support for this OS in the release of Pale Moon 27.0, announced the termination of further development of the project at the request of the Pale Moon developers.

The main complaint of the Pale Moon developers was that Feodor2, the developer of Mypal, did not attach source codes to a specific release published in the form of an executable file, offering to search the GitHub repository for the code of the time period when the release was made, thereby, according to developers of Pale Moon, in violation of the terms of the Mozilla Public License. Since a similar incident was already noticed in 2019, the license is revoked immediately and this time Feodor2 cannot use the 30-day remedy period provided in the MPL.

The MPL explicitly states that the product's Executable Form must provide information on how and where a copy of the Source Code Form can be obtained. The Pale Moon developers insist that posting a link to the master branch in a constantly updated repository is not equivalent to providing a source version of the product, as required by the MPL.

The position of Mypal supporters is that Pale Moon's accusations are based on a misinterpretation of the MPL license, which is not violated, since in fact the change code is provided in the repository and the requirements of the license to open code for arbitrary work are observed. Moreover, in the end, the author of Mypal took into account the remark and a few days ago organized the assignment of tags to releases to identify them in the repository (before, builds were formed as slices of a continuously updated repository).

It can also be noted that the termination of Mypal development is the culmination of a long-standing conflict between the author of the project and M. Tobin, who is one of the main developers of Pale Moon. Last year, M. Tobin succeeded in blocking Mypal fork users from accessing the "addons.palemoon.org" addons catalog due to dissatisfaction with the fact that the fork developers parasitize on the Pale Moon infrastructure and waste project resources without permission, not trying to negotiate and find a mutually beneficial option cooperation.
