The PINE64 project introduced the PineNote e-book

The Pine64 community, dedicated to creating open devices, presented the PineNote e-reader, equipped with a 10.3-inch screen based on electronic ink. The device is built on the Rockchip RK3566 SoC with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, RK NN (0.8Tops) AI accelerator and Mali G52 2EE GPU (OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.1, OpenCL 2.0), which makes the device one of the most high-performance in its class. class. PineNote is currently in the pre-production prototype stage. It's scheduled to go on sale this year for $399.

The device will come with 4GB RAM (LPDDR4) and 128GB eMMC Flash. The 10.3-inch screen is built on the basis of electronic ink (e-ink), supports a resolution of 1404 Γ— 1872 pixels (227 DPI), 16 shades of gray, backlighting with variable brightness, as well as two layers for organizing input - touch (capacitive glass) for control finger touch and EMR (electromagnetic resonance) input using an electronic pen (EMR pen). PineNote also has two microphones and two speakers for sound, supports WiFi 802.11b/g/n/ac (5Ghz), is equipped with a USB-C port and a 4000mAh battery. The front frame of the case is made of magnesium alloy, and the back cover is made of plastic. The thickness of the device is only 7 mm.

PineNote software is based on Linux - support for the Rockchip RK3566 SoC is already included in the main Linux kernel during the development of the Quartz64 board. The driver for the e-paper screen is still in development, but will be ready for production. The first batches are planned to be released with pre-installed Manjaro Linux and the Linux kernel 4.19. It is planned to use KDE Plasma Mobile or a slightly modified desktop KDE Plasma desktop as the user shell. However, the development has not yet been completed and the final software will depend on how the selected technologies behave on an electronic paper-based screen.
