The developers of the Thunderbird email client have published a financial report for 2020. During the year, the project received donations in the amount of $2.3 million (in 2019, $1.5 million was collected), which allows it to independently develop successfully. According to available statistics, about 9.5 million people use Thunderbird every day.
Expenses amounted to $1.5 million and almost all (82.3%) were related to staff costs. 10.6% of funds are spent on professional services such as HR, tax management and agreements with Mozilla, such as payment for access to build infrastructure. About $3 million remains in the accounts of MZLA Technologies Corporation, which oversees the development of Thunderbird.
Currently, 15 people have been hired to work on the project:
- technical manager,
- Business and Community Relations Manager,
- engineer for enterprise support and documentation writing,
- add-on ecosystem coordinator
- chief interface architect,
- security engineer
- 4 developers and 2 main developers,
- Infrastructure Maintenance Team Leader,
- assembly engineer,
- release engineer.
