Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin, according to RIA Novosti, spoke about plans for the implementation of a long-term lunar program.
The current Federal Space Program of the Russian Federation until 2025 includes the Luna-25, Luna-26 and Luna-27 missions. The Luna-25 project is aimed at studying the surface of the Moon in the circumpolar region, as well as testing the soft landing technology. The Luna-26 mission provides for the creation of an orbiter designed to conduct remote studies of the surface of our planet's natural satellite. Finally, within the framework of the Luna-27 project, a landing module will be developed to carry out contact scientific research in the circumpolar region of the Moon.
According to Mr. Rogozin, the launch of Luna-25 is now planned for 2021. The Luna-26 and Luna-27 missions, if no difficulties arise, will be implemented in 2023 and 2024. respectively.
In addition, Dmitry Rogozin said that two more lunar missions, Luna-28 and Luna-29, are planned to be included in the new state program Space Activities of Russia. Under the Luna-28 project, it is planned to create an automatic interplanetary station to deliver lunar soil to Earth. In turn, the Luna-29 mission provides for the launch of an automatic station with a heavy lunar rover on board.
“In the new program that we will develop and adopt, I hope, next year - the state program “Space Activities of Russia” - the following devices will also be included there. Heavy vehicles with the ability to drill regolith, select the necessary minerals and, accordingly, deliver them to Earth, ”said Mr. Rogozin.
