Recall that odd releases of Xfce components are experimental. In particular, within the framework of the 4.15.x branch, functionality is being developed for the future stable release of Xfce 4.16.
Changes in xfdesktop 4.15 include updating some icons, increasing the minimum icon size to 16, moving from exo-csource to using xdt-csource, making sure all selections are cleared after a single click, adding a Shift+Ctrl+N hotkey to create directories, adding a feature searching for icons as you type, as well as fixing errors and eliminating memory leaks. Updated translations, including for Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Kazakh and Uzbek.
In the Thunar file manager, the version numbering has been changed - releases are now named by analogy with other Xfce components (after 1.8.15, 4.15.0 was formed immediately). Compared to the 1.8.x branch, the new release sees some stabilization and functionality work being done. Notable improvements include:
- Implemented the ability to use environment variables (for example, $HOME) in the address bar;
- Added an option to rename the copied file in case of an intersection with the name of an existing file;
- Added a button to pause the move or copy operation;
- The "Sort by" and "View as" items have been removed from the shortcut menu. All context menus are combined into one package;
- Replaced deprecated GtkActionEntry with XfceGtkActionEntry;
- In the thumbnail display mode, it became possible to manipulate files through the drag&drop interface;
- Reduced the vertical size of the template information dialog;
- Support for hiding Android smartphones from the group of network devices. The "network" group has been moved to the bottom;
- The code for matching the input file path with masks is now case-insensitive;
- New bookmarks have been added to the bottom of the list of typical paths;
- Added desktop actions for home directory, system summary (computer:///), and recycle bin.
- Stopped displaying the root when displaying the file tree;
- Added dialog for closing multiple tabs based on libxfce4ui;
- Added an operation confirmation dialog in case of an attempt to close a window with several tabs;
- Added a symbolic icon for the device removal operation;
- Improved design of the access rights settings tab;
- Added setting to enable/disable frames for thumbnails;
- Optimization of padding between widgets in settings dialogs.
