According to The Economic Times, Apple has launched the production of iPhone 11 smartphones at the Foxconn plant in India. This was facilitated by the initiative of the Indian government called "Make in India", which promises benefits to companies that establish their production in the country.
Of course, it is worth noting that Apple has manufactured its smartphones in India before, but previously only budget smartphones, such as the iPhone SE, were assembled here. That changed last year when the country launched production of the iPhone XR, now joined by the iPhone 11. According to the report, Apple is gradually ramping up production and will soon start exporting iPhones from India to other markets. In addition, due to the absence of import duties, devices assembled on the territory of the state will cost its residents 22% cheaper than those imported from abroad.
It is worth noting that India is becoming an increasingly promising contender for the role of a new consumer electronics manufacturing center. Many smartphone companies are planning to move some production outside of China to reduce dependence on one country, analysts say. Such a move is likely to have the best impact on the economies and development of countries such as India and Vietnam.
Apple also already manufactures AirPods Pro in Vietnam. A few days ago it became known that the next generation of Apple wireless headphones will be assembled there.
