Square Enix has announced the closure of Istolia Studios and the cancellation of the fantasy role-playing game Project Prelude Rune.

"After evaluating various aspects of Project Prelude Rune, development has been cancelled," a Square Enix spokesperson said. "Studio Istolia is no longer active and we are taking appropriate steps to assign studio staff to other projects within the Square Enix Group."

About the creation of Studio Istolia and Project Prelude Rune was announced in February 2017. They were led by former Tales of series producer Hideo Baba. The fantasy role-playing game was first shown at the Tokyo Game Show 2018. It was developed on Unreal Engine 4 and was supposed to be released on the PlayStation 4.

This April, Hideo Baba объявил about leaving Studio Istolia in December 2018 and leaving Square Enix in March 2019.
