Project xCloud will be able to play more than 3500 games from different generations of Xbox

Last fall, Microsoft for the first time reported about the xCloud project. This is a game streaming system that will be ready, tentatively, in 2020. It is currently undergoing internal testing, and a beta version of the service may be launched by the end of the year.

Project xCloud will be able to play more than 3500 games from different generations of Xbox

The idea is to enable users to play console games wherever they can. The company wants to make it easier for developers to distribute their projects.

The system is based on servers based on the Xbox One S, as well as the Azure cloud service, with an initial focus on proximity to key game development centers in North America, Asia and Europe. At the same time, the system is is approved, will allow you to play more than 3,5 thousand games from three generations of consoles. There are reportedly over 1900 games currently in development for Xbox One that will be able to run on xCloud without exception.

The company also said that it added an API to the list of developer tools that allows you to determine whether a game is being streamed from the cloud or played locally. This can be important if you need to ensure the minimum delay in the game, for example, in a multiplayer skirmish where ping plays a crucial role. To do this, matches with a large number of players will be transferred to one server.

Another new feature is the font size adjustment for smaller displays, which will be important when playing on a smartphone or tablet. The company also promised to give developers the opportunity to adapt projects for different ways of playing.
