On January 21, the ProtonVPN service opened the source codes of all remaining VPN clients: Windows, Mac, Android, iOS. Console sources Linux client were originally opened. Recently the Linux client has been completely rewritten in Python and got a lot of new features.

Thus, ProtonVPN became the first VPN provider in the world to open source all client applications on all platforms and undergo a full independent code audit by SEC Consult, during which no problems were found that could compromise VPN traffic or lead to privilege escalation.

Previously, Mozilla also helped with code audits and security research - they were given special access to all additional ProtonVPN technologies. After all, soon Mozilla will provide its users with a paid VPN service based on ProtonVPN. In turn, ProtonVPN promises that it will continue to conduct an independent audit of its applications on an ongoing basis.

In the nearest plans of the company — to open source codes of all additional software and components. A graphical client for Linux is also planned, though when exactly is still unknown. The WireGuard VPN protocol is currently in active beta testing - users of paid plans can join and try it out.
