The process of porting a mobile number in Russia will accelerate

The Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz), according to the RIA Novosti online publication, intends to reduce the time for rendering mobile number portability services in our country.

The process of porting a mobile number in Russia will accelerate

We are talking about the MNP service - Mobile Number Portability, which has been provided in Russia since December 1, 2013. Thanks to this service, the subscriber can keep his previous phone number when switching to another cellular operator.

To date, over 23,3 million applications have been submitted through the MNP service. In fact, more than 12 million numbers have been ported. Thus, about half of the requests are not satisfied. The main reason for refusal to provide MNP service is that the phone number is registered with the donor operator for another subscriber. Another common reason is problems with the user's personal data.

In accordance with the current rules, operators are required to provide the MNP service to citizens within eight days, and to legal entities within 29 days. Rossvyaz proposes to reduce these terms.

β€œWe propose reducing the number porting time for both legal entities and individuals through certain procedures. But this requires, first of all, changes in the regulatory framework,” the communications agency said.

It is planned to provide reduction of terms in the foreseeable future. It is expected that this will increase the popularity of the Mobile Number Portability service in our country.
