Qualcomm and Apple are working on an in-screen fingerprint scanner for new iPhones

Many Android smartphone manufacturers have already implemented new in-screen fingerprint scanners in their own devices. Not so long ago, the South Korean company Samsung introduced an ultra-precise ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which will be used in the production of flagship smartphones. As for Apple, the company is still working on a fingerprint scanner for the new iPhones.

Qualcomm and Apple are working on an in-screen fingerprint scanner for new iPhones

According to online sources, Apple has teamed up with Qualcomm to develop an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The device under development resembles the ultrasonic sensor used in Galaxy S10 smartphones. The company's engineers continue intensive work on the product so that the new fingerprint scanner can appear in future iPhones.

It is worth saying that ultrasonic fingerprint scanners are considered faster, safer and more accurate than optical counterparts. They are able to function in conditions of high humidity, have a maximum coefficient of deviation within 1% and can unlock the device in just 250 ms. Despite such impressive characteristics, there are cases when it was possible to deceive the fingerprint scanner using a model of a finger created on a 3D printer.

Probably, Qualcomm will try to get rid of many of the system's shortcomings before the fingerprint scanner starts to be installed in the iPhone. Given that the companies have only recently entered into a new partnership and stopped litigation, it is unlikely that the on-screen fingerprint scanner will appear in the iPhone, which will be presented this year.
