Chipmaker Qualcomm said on Wednesday that the coronavirus outbreak in China poses a potential threat to the mobile phone industry as it could have a negative impact on production and sales.
Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala said on a conference call with investors following the release of its quarterly results that the company expects "significant uncertainty regarding the impact of the coronavirus on phone demand and the supply chain."
Qualcomm officials, however, sought to ease analysts' concerns about the coronavirus, saying the largest markets for 5G devices this year are expected to be the United States, South Korea and Japan, and that the company will be able to weather supply disruptions.
And yet, against the backdrop of such statements, the company's shares fell in price by 3,75%.
