Qualcomm, according to online sources, may soon introduce a new energy-efficient processor designed for use in wearable devices.

The current Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip contains four ARM Cortex-A7 cores, a digital signal processor, and an ultra-low power co-processor. The product is manufactured using 28-nanometer technology.

The projected wearable processor is expected to debut commercially as the Snapdragon Wear 3300. The chip is said to be manufactured using 12nm technology.

According to the available information, Snapdragon Wear 3300 will be based on the Snapdragon 429 processor. The named solution combines four 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores and the Adreno 504 graphics accelerator. The platform provides support for Bluetooth 5.0 wireless communication and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

The Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor is expected to be used primarily in next-generation smartwatches. The WearOS operating system will act as a software platform on such devices.

The announcement of the new chip may take place in the very near future - probably before the end of this year.
