Jeremy Soller (system76 engineer) announced that he is starting work on porting coreboot (LinuxBIOS) for modern AMD Ryzen systems (Matisse and Renoir series), supported by Lisa Su (AMD CEO). The project is a free alternative for proprietary and closed BIOS and UEFI systems.
