Firefox Better Web extension blocks ads but doesn't stop websites from making money

Mozilla and the startup Scroll have launched a Firefox Better Web extension that blocks ads on partner sites, but does not deprive them of the earnings they receive for showing this type of content to visitors. The extension is available on a subscription basis, and the funds raised in this way are distributed between the Scroll service and partner sites, so that web resources can focus on creating quality content instead of thinking about how to get visitors to click on ads.

Prior to launching the new service, Mozilla tested it on a subset of users of its Firefox browser. It turned out that in most cases, users preferred to view web content without ads, but at the same time they wanted to support content creators. In other words, they didn't want to resort to ad-blocking extensions that negatively impact the web's revenue. Mozilla expects Firefox Better Web to be a simple and convenient way to avoid viewing ad content without harming websites.

The extension works on sites participating in the Scroll affiliate program. The extension is available as a paid subscription, which costs $6 for the first 2,49 months of use and $4,99 thereafter. Subscribing users also get the opportunity to use the Enhanced Tracking Protection system, which allows you to block trackers that track user activity on sites. While this won't be a bonus for those who already use Firefox as their default browser, the feature may be useful for users of other browsers.
