The State Corporation Roscosmos announced the granting of a license to 3D Bioprinting Solutions, the developer of the unique experimental setup Organ.Avt.
Recall that the Organ.Avt device is designed for 3D biofabrication of tissues and organ constructs aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The growth of the material is carried out using the βformativeβ principle, when the sample grows in a strong magnetic field under microgravity conditions.
The first experiment using the "Organ.Avt" system was carried out in December last year. During the study, 12 XNUMXD tissue engineering constructs were βprintedβ: six samples of human cartilage tissue and six samples of mouse thyroid tissue. In general, the work was recognized as successful, although the study of samples delivered to Earth is still ongoing.
Roscosmos issued a license to 3D Bioprinting Solutions to carry out space activities. This means that the company will be able to continue work in the direction it has begun, move on to a new stage of research and independent production of a 3D bioprinter.
"3D Bioprinting Solutions" expects to organize the second stage of experiments in orbit this year.
