Edge (Chromium) developers have not yet made a decision on the issue of blocking ads through the webRequest API

Clouds continue to gather around the situation with the webRequest API in the Chromium browser. Already at Google led arguments, stating that the use of this interface is associated with increased load on the PC, and is also unsafe for a number of reasons. And although the community and developers object, it seems that the corporation has seriously decided to abandon webRequest. They said that the interface gives Adblock other extensions too much access to the user's personal data.

At the same time, the creators of the browsers Vivaldi, Opera and Brave statedthat will ignore Google's ban. But in Microsoft not allowed a clear answer. They held a series of questions and answers on Reddit, where they said that during the Build conference, issues related to user security and privacy were discussed. However, no concrete decisions have yet been made. Redmond noted that they heard from many users the desire to get a reliable solution for blocking ads.

It was also stated that in the future, the creators of Microsoft Edge will share more details on how this will be implemented in the "blue" browser.

Of course, this answer disappointed Reddit users. They accused the company of not having a clear position on the situation. And some said that Microsoft is in the same situation as Google, because the Bing search engine uses ads in the same way. Because the situation in Redmond and Mountain View is similar, both companies "sit" in the advertising business.

Therefore, most likely, from January 1, 2020, after the ban on webRequest, a split will come in the camp of browser developers. How this will end, one can only guess.
