LibreOffice developers are considering alternatives to using the "Personal Edition" label

Chairman of the governing board of The Document Foundation, which oversees the development of the free LibreOffice package, saidthat the council reviewed the community's response to intention ship the LibreOffice office suite labeled "Personal Edition". A revised version will be posted next Monday. marketing plan, which will take into account the suggestions and wishes of the community representatives.

The final decision on adding the tag will be made by July 17th. Several scenarios are being considered:

  • The marketing plan may be delayed until LibreOffice 7.1 is released, allowing additional time for discussions to continue.
  • The marketing plan may be implemented in release 7.0.0, but instead of "Personal Edition", the standard package will most likely be labeled "Community Edition", and for extended paid editions offered by ecosystem members - "Enterprise Edition". Feedback and suggestions regarding the choice of name will be accepted until July 17th.
  • As an option - the second approach, but with the possibility of changing the label in the 7.1 release after studying feedback on the 7.0 release.
