Google intends to seriously curtail the capabilities of ad blockers in future versions of Chrome. However, browser developers Brave, Opera and Vivaldi don't plan change their browsers despite the common codebase.

Opera, Brave and Vivaldi Developers Will Ignore Chrome's Ad Blocker Restrictions

They have confirmed in public comments that they do not intend to support the extension system change that the search giant has announced this January as part of Manifest V3. At the same time, not only blockers can have problems. The changes will affect extensions for antivirus products, parental controls and various privacy services.

Developers and users have criticized Google's stance and said that this is an attempt to forcefully increase the profits of the company's advertising business. And the company's management reported that ad blockers will leave only for corporate users. Manifest V3 is expected to launch in January 2020.

The move angered Chrome users and they began to look at alternatives in the form of Firefox and other Chromium-based browsers. And browser developers have announced that they will support the old webRequest technology. For example, they will do this in Brave, which also has a built-in blocker. The web browser will also continue to support uBlock Origin and uMatrix.

The same was stated in Opera Software. At the same time, the β€œred browser” is equipped with its own ad blocker in both desktop and mobile versions. The company said that users of Opera will not feel the change, unlike users of most other browsers.

And the developers of Vivaldi said that there are many ways to solve the problem, it all depends on how Google implements the restriction for extensions. One option is to restore the API, the other is to create a limited extension store. The only major browser vendor that has yet to respond to our request for comment on this issue has been Microsoft.
