Developers were able to run Ubuntu on Apple's M1 chip.

β€œDream of being able to run Linux on Apple's new chip? The reality is much closer than you might think."

A popular website among Ubuntu lovers around the world writes about this news with this subtitle omg!ubuntu!

Developers from the company Corellium, which deals with virtualization on ARM chips, were able to run and get stable operation of the Ubuntu 20.04 distribution on the latest Apple Mac Mini.

Chris Wade wrote as much in his twitter account following:

β€œLinux is now fully usable on the Apple M1. We load a full-fledged Ubuntu desktop from USB. The network operates via a USB hub. Our update includes support for USB, I2C, DART. We will soon upload the changes to our GitHub account and installation instructions later...”

Earlier, Linus Torvalds, in an interview with a ZDNet correspondent, already spoke about the core support for the M1 chip in the sense that until Apple reveals the specifications of the chip, there will be obvious problems with its GPU and β€œother devices around it” and therefore he does not plan to deal with this yet.

It should also be recalled that the community created a special project AsahiLinux on reverse engineering the M1 processor to write a driver for its GPU, led by a developer who was previously able to get Linux to work on PS4.

Another bastion has been taken, and the Linux community has once again demonstrated its enormous potential and great capabilities, based on the enthusiasm and interaction of people around the world.
