OpenJDK development moved to Git and GitHub

Project OpenJDK, developing a reference implementation of the Java language, successfully completed migration from Mercurial version control to Git and the GitHub collaborative development platform. Development of a new branch of OpenJDK 16 already began on the new platform. To simplify the transition from Mercurial to Git, a toolkit has been prepared crowd, which takes into account the features of broadcasting changes to mailing lists and integration with the bug tracking system, as well as automating the transition of assemblies in the continuous integration system to GitHub Actions technology.

The migration is expected to improve the performance of repository operations, increase storage efficiency, ensure that changes throughout the history of the project are available in the repository, improve support for code reviews, and use APIs to automate workflows. In addition, the use of Git and GitHub will make the project more attractive to beginners and developers who are used to Git.
