Red Hat begins job cuts

The director of Red Hat announced in an internal corporate mailing about the upcoming reduction of hundreds of jobs. There are currently 2200 employees at Red Hat's head office and 19000 more in locations around the world. The exact number of job cuts is not specified, it is only known that layoffs will be carried out in several stages and will not affect employees involved in the creation of products and direct sales to customers.

Negative forecasts for future profits contribute to staff reductions. For example, in the most recent quarter, Rad Hat's revenue grew by 8%, which is perceived as a slowdown in growth, since the company has shown an average growth of 2019% since 15.

In addition, it can be noted that at the beginning of the year, IBM, which owns Red Hat, announced the dismissal of 3900 employees, but then information appeared about an increase in the number of layoffs to 5000. Taking into account that 7000 new employees were hired at IBM a few months earlier, some analysts attribute the layoffs to the shedding of excess staff hired due to labor shortages at a time of post-pandemic growth in economic activity.
