The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has approved Apple's request to waive import duties on the Apple Watch, allowing the company to import devices from China without paying 7,5% of their cost.

The regulator exempted Apple from paying import duties on Apple Watch

The Apple Watch has been included in the US Trade Representative's list of "List 4A" devices that have been subject to import duties since September last year. In February, President Donald Trump reduced its rate from 15 to 7,5%.

In its petition to the USTR last fall, Apple said the Apple Watch is a consumer electronics device and that it has no strategic significance or connection to China's industrial programs. The company also noted that it had not found an alternative source for assembling the Apple Watch that could meet demand for the product in the United States.
