Unbeknownst to everyone, the development team has released CentOS 8.1, a completely free version of the commercial distribution from Red Hat.
Innovations are similar such RHEL 8.1 (excluding some modified or removed utilities):
- The kpatch utility is available for a "hot" (not requiring a reboot) kernel update.
- Added the eBPF (Extended Berkeley Packet Filter) utility - a virtual machine for executing code in the kernel space.
- Added support for changing the encryption of used devices in LUKS2.
- Updated DRM graphics subsystem to that of kernel 5.1 to support a wider range of graphics cards.
