Release of Chrome OS 75

Google company presented operating system release Chrome OS 75based on the Linux kernel, the upstart system manager, the ebuild/portage build tool, open components, and a web browser Chrome 75. The Chrome OS user environment is limited to a web browser, and instead of standard programs, web applications are involved, however, Chrome OS includes includes a full-fledged multi-window interface, desktop and taskbar.

All changes in Chrome OS 75:

  • Added the ability for applications to use VPN connections established through existing Android or Chrome OS VPN connections to the environment for running Linux applications (all traffic from the Linux environment can be wrapped in an existing VPN);
  • For the Linux environment, the ability to access Android devices connected via a USB port is also implemented (in the main Chrome OS environment, the user must set the option to share the USB port with the Linux environment);
  • Added support for printing with a PIN code (when sending for printing, the user sets a PIN code, and then confirms the printout by entering this PIN on the printer keypad). This confirmation ensures that an important document will be printed on the correct printer, and not sent by mistake to another device. This feature is only available when the system is running in Managed Mode and the printer supports IPPS and the "job-password" IPP attribute;

  • Added support for third-party files in the file manager document providers (arbitrary external stores) that support the DocumentsProvider API. The user can install applications based on this API and access files in the sidebar through the selected document provider;
  • Added the ability to display copyrighted content (DRM) on a secondary external monitor;
  • Added the ability to provide additional bonus time for children to work at the computer in the parental control tools;
  • For children's accounts, the voice assistant Google Assistant adapted for children has been implemented;
  • Added attack protection MDS (Microarchitectural Data Sampling) on ​​Intel processors.
