Release of desktop environment Trinity R14.0.10, continuing the development of KDE 3.5

The Trinity R14.0.10 desktop environment has been released, continuing the development of the KDE 3.5.x and Qt 3 codebase. Binary packages will soon be prepared for Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL/CentOS, Fedora, openSUSE and other distributions.

Among the features of Trinity, one can note its own tools for managing screen parameters, a udev-based layer for working with equipment, a new interface for configuring equipment, switching to the Compton-TDE composite manager (a fork of Compton with TDE extensions), improved network configurator and user authentication mechanisms. The Trinity environment can be installed and used simultaneously with more recent releases of KDE, including the ability to use already installed KDE applications in Trinity. There are also tools for correctly displaying the interface of GTK programs without violating the uniform design style.

The new version contains changes mainly related to bug fixes and work to improve the stability of the codebase. Improvements added include:

  • New applications included: KlamAV anti-virus package (add-on for ClamAV), full-screen interface for switching between KomposΓ© tasks/virtual desktops, TDEFifteen game (XNUMX puzzle).
  • GnuPG uses a new pinentry-tqt dialog to enter passwords and PINs.
  • Added support for 32-bit and 64-bit RISC-V systems.
  • Significantly improved implementation of the virtual keyboard (kvkbd).
  • Added the ability to adjust the indents between icons on the desktop.
  • Added support for Ubuntu 21.04, Mageia 8, Fedora 33 and FreeBSD 13.
  • Added setting to display cover in KPDF when viewed in two-page mode.
  • Implemented the ability to fine-tune the brightness in 1% increments.
  • Improved Unicode support.
  • Improved work of the widget for displaying the weather forecast.
  • Added additional screensavers for the screen saver.
  • The transition of components to the CMake build system continued. Removed automake support for some packages.
  • Continued work on honing the user interface.
  • Initial support for repeatable builds has been provided.

Shortly after the foundation of the Trinity project, porting of the codebase to Qt 4 was started, but in 2014 this process was frozen. Until the migration to the current Qt branch is completed, the project has ensured the maintenance of the Qt3 codebase, which continues to make bug fixes and add improvements, despite the official end of support for Qt3.
