The Trinity R14.0.13 desktop environment has been released, continuing the development of the KDE 3.5.x and Qt 3 codebase. Binary packages will soon be prepared for Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL/CentOS, Fedora, openSUSE and other distributions.
Among the features of Trinity, one can note its own tools for managing screen parameters, a udev-based layer for working with equipment, a new interface for configuring equipment, switching to the Compton-TDE composite manager (a fork of Compton with TDE extensions), improved network configurator and user authentication mechanisms. The Trinity environment can be installed and used simultaneously with more recent releases of KDE, including the ability to use already installed KDE applications in Trinity. There are also tools for correctly displaying the interface of GTK programs without violating the uniform design style.
Among the changes:
- A new tdeio-slave handler "appinfo:/" (tdeio-appinfo) has been added that displays information about configuration files, data directories, user guides, and temporary files associated with the specified application.
- Added twin-style-machbunt set with window decoration style reminiscent of the KDE theme from SUSE 9.1/9.2.
- Konsole, Kate, KWrite, TDevelop, and various programs that use the Kate-based editing component support changing the font size by rotating the mouse wheel while holding down the Ctrl key.
- The text editor Kate has implemented syntax highlighting for files with Markdown markup.
- Improved interface for setting desktop wallpaper.
- In the Konqueror browser/file manager, the Action context menu now allows you to select the mode for placing the current image as desktop wallpaper.
- The taskbar now has the ability to use operations from the Move Task Button menu and the drag&drop interface to move grouped buttons.
- In the Input Actions settings section, a new action has been proposed to insert a delay between operations, buttons have been added to move the line up or down, and an interface has been improved for creating and editing actions.
- Added new tdeio-slave handler for SFTP protocol based on libssh usage.
- Added support for FFmpeg 5.0, Jasper 3.x and Poppler >= 22.04. Improved support for Python3.
- Added man guides for abakus, amarok, arts, k3b, k9copy, kile, koffice, krecipes, ktorrent, libksquirrel, rosegarden, tellico, tdeaddons, tdeartwork, tdebase, tdebindings, tdegraphics, tdemultimedia, tdenetwork, tdesdk, and tdeutils applications.
- Documentation has improved API call formatting.
- Fixed vulnerabilities in tdeio-slave module for FISH (CVE-2020-12755) and KMail (EFAIL attack).
- Fixed issues with opening files via media:/ and system:/media/ URLs from non-TDE applications.
- Provided compatibility with OpenSSL 3.0.
- Improved Gentoo support. Added support for Ubuntu 22.10, Fedora 36/37, openSUSE 15.4, Arch Linux builds for arm64 and armhf architectures. Ended support for Ubuntu 20.10.
