Canonical has released a new version of the display server Mir 1.2.
Major changes:
- New package libmirwayland-dev, which is the first iteration of the API to enable Mir-based wrappers (to support native Wayland extensions).
- Several related additions to the MirAL API.
- Support for registering native Wayland extensions has been added to WaylandExtensions.
- A new MinimalWindowManager class that provides default window management settings.
- Continued work on experimental support for X11. Now, if necessary, you can run Xwayland.
- List of supported Wayland extensions (some of them are enabled, the rest must be enabled by yourself): wl_shell (enabled), xdg_wm_base (enabled), zxdg_shell_v6 (enabled), zwlr_layer_shell_v1 (disabled), zxdg_output_v1 (disabled).
- Lots of fixes.
Currently, Mir is used in Embedded and IOT, and is also used as a composite server for Wayland, allowing you to run any Wayland applications in your environment.
