Release of the distribution kit Network Security Toolkit 32

Submitted by release of live distribution NST (Network Security Toolkit) 32-11992, designed to analyze network security and monitor its operation. Boot Size iso image (x86_64) is 4.1 GB. A special repository has been prepared for Fedora Linux users, which makes it possible to install all the developments created within the framework of the NST project into an already installed system. The distribution is based on Fedora 30 and allows installation of additional packages from external repositories that are compatible with Fedora Linux.

The distribution includes a large selection Applicationsrelated to network security (for example: Wireshark, NTop, Nessus, Snort, NMap, Kismet, TcpTrack, Etherape, nsttracroute, Ettercap, etc.). To manage the security check process and automate the call of various utilities, a special web interface has been prepared, which also integrates a web frontend for the Wireshark network analyzer. The distribution's graphical environment is based on FluxBox.

In the new release:

  • The package base is synchronized with Fedora 32. Linux 5.6 kernel is involved. Updated to the latest releases supplied as part of the application.
  • A page has been added to the NST WUI web interface to show Wireshark tshark statistics, providing information about the communication between two selected hosts. It is possible to filter traffic by type and customize the displayed fields. The results are presented in tabular form, which can then be analyzed in the NST Network Tools widgets.
  • The NST Network Interface Bandwidth Monitor component of network interface bandwidth monitoring has been updated, which now supports access via WebSocket to increase the efficiency of data transfer. Added a new peak tracking widget.
  • A page has been added to the web interface for quickly scanning directories using the utility dirble. Provided dirble integration with a list of words generated in CeWL.
  • application mtraceroute ( Multi-Traceroute) was included in the main part of the project scapey.
  • Application included fwknop (FireWall KNock OPerator) with the implementation of the SPA authorization scheme (Single Packet Authorization, opening access on the firewall after sending a specially designed packet).
  • A new page has been added to the web interface for MeshCommander - Applications for remote management using Intel AMT Remote Management;
  • Application integrated Dump1090 to track the movement of aircraft based on signal reception from ADS-B Mode S transmitters.
  • The web interface has a built-in page for cropping and scaling images (used Cropper.js).
