After a year of development, the release of the OpenMandriva Lx 4.3 distribution is presented. The project is being developed by the community after Mandriva SA transferred the management of the project to the non-profit organization "OpenMandriva Association". A 2.5 GB (x86_64) live build "znver1" optimized for AMD Ryzen, ThreadRipper and EPYC processors is available for download, as well as images for use on PinebookPro, Raspberry Pi 4B/3B+, Rock Pi 4A/4B ARM devices /4C, Synquacer, Cubox Pulse and various Arch64 based server boards.

Major changes:

  • The Clang compiler used to build packages has been updated to the LLVM 13 branch. To build all the components of the distribution kit, you can only use Clang, including the Linux kernel version of the package built in Clang.
  • Updated system packages, including Linux kernel 5.16, Calamares installer 3.2.39, systemd 249, binutils 2.37, gcc 11.2, glibc 2.34, Java 17, PHP 8.1.2.
  • Updated desktop and graphics stack components: KDE Plasma 5.23.5, KDE Frameworks 5.90.0, KDE Gear 21.12.2, Qt 5.15.3, Xorg 21.1.3, Wayland 1.20.0, FFmpeg 5.0, Mesa 21.3.5, AMDVLK 2022.Q1.2. Improved session performance based on the Wayland protocol, added support for hardware-accelerated video encoding (VA-API) in Wayland-based environments.

  • Packages with user environments LXQt 1.0.0, Xfce 4.16, GNOME 41, MATE 1.26, Lumina 1.6.2, IceWM 2.9.5, i3-wm 4.20, CuteFish 0.7 and Maui-shell have been updated in the repository.

  • The Desktop Presets (om-feeling-like) configurator has been updated, offering a set of presets that allow you to make the KDE Plasma desktop look like other environments (for example, make it look like the interface of Ubuntu, Windows 7, Windows 10, macOS, etc.).

  • The OM Welcome application, designed for initial setup and familiarization of the user with the system, has been updated, in which it has become possible to quickly install standard additional programs that are not included in the basic delivery.

  • Improved performance of the Software Repository Selector (om-repo-picker) application for connecting additional package repositories.

  • By default, the PipeWire multimedia server is used for audio processing, which replaced PulseAudio (can be returned from the repository).
  • The port for 64-bit ARM processors (aarch64) has been brought to full readiness and tested on PinebookPro, Raspberry Pi 4B/3B+, Rock Pi 4A/4B/4C, Synquacer and Cubox Pulse devices, as well as on server boards that support UEFI.
  • An experimental build of OpenMandriva for the PinePhone smartphone has been prepared.
  • Work continues on a port for the RISC-V architecture that was not included in the 4.3 release.
