Release of the Slax 11.2 distribution based on Debian 11

After a two-year pause, the release of the compact Live-distribution Slax 11.2 has been prepared. Starting in 2018, the distribution has been transferred from the Slackware project developments to the Debian package base, the APT package manager, and the systemd init system. The graphical environment is based on the FluxBox window manager and the xLunch desktop/program launcher interface, specially developed for Slax by the project members. The boot image is 280 MB (amd64, i386).

In the new version:

  • The package base has been migrated from Debian 9 to Debian 11.
  • Added support for booting from USB drives on systems with UEFI.
  • Implemented support for the AUFS (AnotherUnionFS) file system.
  • Connman is used to configure network connections (previously used Wicd).
  • Improved support for connecting to wireless networks.
  • Added the xinput package and provided support for tapping on the touchpad.
  • The core package includes gnome-calculator and the scite text editor. The Chrome browser has been removed from the base package.
