KnotDNS 2.8.4 DNS server release

On September 24, 2019, an entry about the release of the KnotDNS 2.8.4 DNS server appeared on the developer's website. The project developer is the Czech domain name registrar CZ.NIC. KnotDNS is a high performance DNS server that supports all the features of DNS. Written in C and licensed GPLv3.

To ensure high query processing performance, a multi-threaded and, for the most part, non-blocking implementation is used, which scales well on SMP systems.

Server features include:

  • adding and removing zones on the fly;
  • zone transfer between servers;
  • DDNS (dynamic updates);
  • NSID (RFC 5001);
  • EDNS0 and DNSSEC extensions (including NSEC3);
  • Response Intensity Limits (RRL)

New in version 2.8.4:

  • automatic loading of DS (Delegation of Signing) records into the parent DNS zone using DDNS;
  • in case of network connection problems, incoming IXFR requests are no longer converted to AXFR;
  • improved check for missing GR (Glue Record) records with DNS server addresses defined on the registrar's side.
