The fidoip 2.0.5 update, a suite of programs for working on the Fidonet network, has been released. The suite contains the latest versions of classic FIDO programs (all free software): a mailer for receiving email over the internet, a tosser for processing messages, and a message editor.
Briefly about the main changes in this version:
Improved downloading of nodelist and pointlist updates; the kit uses over 10 mirrors. If internet access is limited, the kit can download updates using a traditional Fidonet channel—file conferences.
Improved traffic statistics for file conferences transmitting large audio and video files. Depending on the volume of data transmitted via echo, traffic statistics in reports are displayed in kilobytes, megabytes, and gigabytes, rather than bytes as was previously the case.
New export and import utilities allow you to export and import node or point configurations when updating kit versions, as well as easily move the fidoip installation to another directory/on another computer;
The fidoip kit is easy to set up. Using it, you can easily connect to Fidonet (you'll need to contact the network's system operators, a list of which is provided in the documentation) and quickly set up your own Fidonet node.
