Firefox 69 Release: Improved Power Efficiency on macOS and Another Step to Stop Flash

Firefox 69.0 is currently available via OTA updates in the installed browser. You can also download network or full installer on the official FTP. While there are no major changes in this release, Firefox 69 does bring some improvements for Windows and Mac users.

In the latter case, we are talking about increasing battery life on Mac computers in a dual GPU configuration. In this case, Firefox now selects a more power efficient GPU, which can reduce power consumption when playing WebGL content. Also for macOS users, the browser now displays download progress in the Finder.

In Windows, the changes manifested themselves in performance improvements. Now the browser allows users to correctly set priority levels for a particular content. We also added support for the HmacSecret web authentication extension on Windows 10 May 2019 Update or later systems. This extension allows you to use Windows Hello.

Finally, 69 makes changes to how the Adobe Flash Player plugin works. From now on, it will have to be allowed to run every time Flash content is found on the site. Thus, Mozilla continues the path to the complete rejection of outdated and "leaky" web technology.

By the way, a few days ago the developers released major update of the Thunderbird mail program number 68 for all supported platforms.
