Release of LanguageTool 5.5, a grammar, spelling, punctuation and style corrector

LanguageTool 5.5, free software for checking grammar, spelling, punctuation and style, has been released. The program is presented both as an extension for LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice, and as an independent console and graphical application, and a web server. In addition, languagetool.org has an interactive grammar and spelling checker. The program is available both as an extension for LibreOffice and Apahe OpenOffice, and as an independent version with a web server.

Core code and standalone applications for LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice require Java 8 or later. Provided compatibility with Amazon Corretto 8+, including extensions for LibreOffice. The main core of the program is distributed under the LGPL license. There are third-party plug-ins for integration with other programs, such as extensions for Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, Opera and Safari browsers, as well as for Google Docs (text editor) and Word 2016+.

In the new version:

  • Created new and updated existing rules for checking punctuation and grammar for Russian, English, Ukrainian, French, German, Portuguese, Catalan, Dutch and Spanish.
  • Updated built-in dictionaries.
  • Updated and fixed LibreOffice and ApacheOpenOffice integration code.

Changes for the Russian language module include:

  • Created new and improved existing grammar rules.
  • Updated and redesigned built-in dictionaries.
  • Activated rules for working in the "picky" mode of browser extensions.
