VideoLAN project ΠΎΠΏΡƒΠ±Π»ΠΈΠΊΠΎΠ²Π°Π» media player corrective release VLC 3.0.7. The new version fixes 24 vulnerabilities (CVE not assigned) that could potentially lead to buffer overflows when processing various types of content, including MKV, MP4 and OGG files. Problems were identified during initiatives FOSSA (Free and Open Source Software Audit), aimed at improving the security of open source software and established by the European Commission.

From non-security related changes noted Improved support for menus on Blu-ray discs, MP4 format, Chromecast devices. Improved code for using HDR on the Windows platform, including support for the standard HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma). Updated scripts for interacting with Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo and Soundcloud services.

Additional mention may be made decision developers of the Ubuntu MATE distribution to abandon the use of VLC in favor of a multimedia player celluloid (former GNOME MPV), which will ship by default in the 19.10 release. Celluloid is a graphical add-on for the MPV console player written using GTK. Replacing VLC with Celluloid in the base distribution will improve the integration of the media player with the desktop and reduce the size of the iso image (Celluloid on GTK takes 27MB, and VLC on Qt requires about 70MB).
