Release of LibreOffice 6.4 office suite

Organization The Document Foundation presented office suite release LibreOffice 6.4. Key innovations:

  • For documents displayed on the start page, icons are displayed with application indicators that allow you to immediately evaluate the type of document (presentation, spreadsheet, text document, etc.);

  • The interface has a built-in QR code generator that allows you to insert a QR code with a user-specified link or free text into a document, which can then be quickly read from a mobile device. In Impress, Draw, Writer and Calc, the QR code insertion dialog is invoked via the menu "Insert β–Έ Object β–Έ QR Code";

  • All LibreOffice components have a unified context menu for manipulating hyperlinks. In any document, you can now open, edit, copy or delete a link through the context menu;

  • Expanded an automatic editing tool that now allows you to hide classified or sensitive data in exported documents (for example, when saving to PDF) based on user-defined arbitrary text masks or regular expressions;

  • A built-in local search engine for help pages has been added, which allows you to quickly find the necessary hint (search is built on the basis of the search engine xapian-omega). Many help pages are provided with localized screenshots, the language of the interface elements on which matches the language of the text;

  • Added dark SVG icons for the Breeze and Sifr themes and large icons (32x32) for the Sifr theme in the classic panel;

  • Writer now has the ability to mark comments as resolved (for example, to indicate that a proposed edit in a comment has been completed). Resolved comments can be displayed with a special label or hidden;

  • Added support attaching comments not only to text, but also to images and diagrams within the document;

  • Added table layout tools to the Writer sidebar;

  • Improved options for cutting, copying and pasting tables. Commands have been added for quickly moving and deleting entire tables and individual rows/columns (when cutting, not only the contents, but also the structure of the table are now cut).
    *Improved moving tables, rows and columns with the mouse in drag & drop mode. A new item "Paste as Nested Table" has been added to the menu for creating nested tables (inserting one table into another);

  • Writer also improves the performance of importing documents with many bookmarks. Improved tracking of changes in numbered and enumerated lists. Added the ability placing text in text boxes (Writer Text Frames) vertically from bottom to top;

  • Added by setting to automatically exclude overlapping shapes in a document;

  • In Calc added the ability to export multiple spreadsheets to a single-page PDF, allowing you to view all the content at once without turning pages;

  • Calc also has improved selection of cells containing hyperlinks. Parallelization of calculation of unrelated groups of formulas on different CPU cores is provided. A multi-threaded version of the sorting algorithm has been added, which is currently only used for pivot tables;

  • In Impress and Draw, the option "Consolidate Text" has been added to the menu "Shape" ("Forms"), which allows you to combine several selected blocks with text into one. For example, such an operation may be required after importing from PDF, as a result of which the text was divided into many disparate blocks;

  • The capabilities of the server edition of LibreOffice Online have been expanded, which allows you to organize joint work with the office suite via the Web. Writer Online introduces the ability to change table properties through the sidebar. Implemented full support for working with the table of contents of the document (Table of Contents).

  • Calc Online now has all the features of the Function Wizard.

  • Added support for conditional formatting control dialog. The sidebar implements all the options displayed when selecting charts;

  • Significantly improved compatibility with Microsoft Office documents in DOC, DOCX, PPTX and XLSX formats. Improved performance for saving and opening spreadsheets with a large number of comments, styles, COUNTIF() functions, and change tracking log entries. Speed ​​up the opening of some types of PPT files. For protected XLSX files, the 15-character password limit has been removed;

  • The kf5 and Qt5 VCL plugins, which allow the use of native KDE and Qt dialogs, buttons, window borders and widgets, are close in capabilities to other VCL plugins. The kde5 plugin has been renamed to kf5;

  • Dropped support for Java 6 and 7 (leaving Java 8) and the VCL rendering backend using GTK+2.
