The lightweight window manager IceWM 3.8.0 is now available. IceWM provides full control through keyboard shortcuts, the ability to use virtual desktops, the taskbar and application menus, and you can use tabs to group windows. The window manager is configured through a fairly simple configuration file, it is possible to use themes. Supports combining windows in the form of tabs. Built-in applets are available for monitoring CPU, memory, traffic. Separately, several third-party GUIs for customization, desktop implementations, and menu editors are being developed. The code is written in C++ and distributed under the GPLv2 license.
Among the changes in the new version:
- The Themes menu now displays a minimize button to demonstrate the icon style of each theme.
- The loading of the menu with design themes has been accelerated.
- Reduced CPU load when running the widget with a memory and CPU consumption graph.
- Additional links to manuals have been added to the Help menu.
- Implemented conversion of hotkeys to uppercase in accordance with the current locale.
- The icesh and icewmbg utilities use a non-deterministic random number generator (instead of the "rand()" function, "arc4random_uniform()" is now called).
