The release of the user environment LXQt 1.4 (Qt Lightweight Desktop Environment), developed by the joint team of developers of the LXDE and Razor-qt projects, is presented. The LXQt interface continues to follow the ideas of the classic desktop organization, introducing modern design and techniques that increase usability. LXQt is positioned as a lightweight, modular, fast and convenient continuation of the development of the Razor-qt and LXDE desktops, incorporating the best features of both shells. The code is hosted on GitHub and is licensed under GPL 2.0+ and LGPL 2.1+. Ready builds are expected for Ubuntu (LXQt is offered by default in Lubuntu), Arch Linux, Fedora, openSUSE, Mageia, FreeBSD, ROSA and ALT Linux.
- The files required to display menus are now distributed in their own lxqt-menu-data package, which replaces the previously used lxmenu-data package from the LXDE project.
- The PCManFM-Qt file manager provides the ability to define a command to call the terminal emulator. The state of the two-panel mode is taken into account when restoring a tab in the last window. The mount dialog now supports saving password and anonymity settings.
- The QTerminal terminal emulator has added the Falco color scheme, the ability to replace mouse buttons in Putty style, and an option to sound a sound when processing a special character with code 0x07 (β\aβ).
- The Image Viewer has added initial support for color spaces.
- A setting has been added to the plugin for executing arbitrary commands to display output in image form.
- The environment for activating DBus has been updated in the session manager, which has solved problems with applications that set the DBusActivatable setting, for example, Telegram.
- Like previous releases, LXQt 1.4 continues to be based on the Qt 5.15 branch, official updates for which are released only under a commercial license, and unofficial free updates are generated by the KDE project. The porting to Qt 6 is already nearing completion and unless unexpected problems occur, the next release of LXQt will be based on Qt 6.
