QVGE 0.6.0 release (visual graph editor)

QVGE 0.6.0 release (visual graph editor)

The next release of Qt Visual Graph Editor 0.6, a multiplatform visual graph editor, has taken place.

The main scope of QVGE is the “manual” creation and editing of small graphs as illustrative materials (for example, for articles), the creation of diagrams and workflow rapid prototypes, input / output from open formats (GraphML, GEXF, DOT), saving images to PNG /SVG/PDF, etc.

QVGE also finds application for scientific purposes (for example, for building and parameterizing input models for physical process simulators).

However, in general, QVGE is positioned as a minimalistic tool for visual viewing and editing of graphs, regardless of the subject area, if you need to quickly “fix” a couple of parameters or the position and appearance of nodes after automatic placement.

The most significant changes in this version:

  • Added polygonal branches
  • Added export to SVG format
  • Improved I/O support for DOT/GraphViz format
  • Improved display of graph elements and current selection
  • Node visual transformation supports coordinate scaling mode (no resizing)
  • Support for the latest version of OGDF (v.2020-02) and Davidson-Harrel node placement
  • Improved application installation via make install - menu items are now created (at least in Gnome)
  • Also many bugs in previous versions have been fixed.
