Drawing 1.0.0, a simple drawing program similar to Microsoft Paint, has been released. The project is written in Python using the GTK library and distributed under the GPLv3 license. Ready-made packages are prepared for Ubuntu, Fedora and in Flatpak format. GNOME is considered as the main graphical environment, but alternative interface layouts are offered in the style of elementaryOS, Cinnamon, LXDE, LXQt and MATE, as well as a mobile version for Pinephone and Librem 5 smartphones.
The program supports images in PNG, JPEG and BMP formats. Provides traditional drawing tools such as pencil, stylus pressure-sensitive brushes, airbrush, eraser, lines, rectangles, polygons, freeform, text, fill, marquee, crop, scale, transform, rotate, change brightness, select and replace colors, filters (increasing contrast or saturation, blurring, adding transparency, inverting).
In the new version:
- Rendering performance has been optimized, which is most noticeable when editing large images on weak CPUs.
- A new Skew tool has been added to skew an image horizontally or vertically, converting a rectangular area to a parallelogram.
- The ability to quickly call operations using the keyboard combinations "Alt + letter" is provided (works only for layouts with Latin letters).
- The scaling tool now has the ability to set the new size as a percentage of the current size, and not just in pixels.
- Improved output clarity at zoom levels above 400%.
- When pressing the "Ctrl" key, a tooltip is provided with the cursor coordinates and tool-specific parameters, such as the size of the shape.
- Using the Shift and Alt keys pressed while using the tools, the inclusion of additional options is implemented, such as fixing the line drawing direction or changing the fill style.
- The size of the active elements of the sidebar has been increased in the interface.
- Improved output of contextual hints.
