NetworkManager 1.50.0 release

A stable release of the interface for simplifying network settings has been published — NetworkManager 1.50.0. Plugins for VPN support (Libreswan, OpenConnect, Openswan, SSTP, etc.) are being developed within their own development cycles.

Key innovations in NetworkManager 1.50:

  • Support for the "dhclient" utility has been deprecated and disabled at build time, and it is recommended to use the built-in DHCP client, which is used by default since NetworkManager 1.20.
  • The ability to search for and specify OVS (Open vSwitch) system network interfaces by their MAC address has been implemented.
  • Added support for setting connection check timeout.
  • The nmtui utility has been updated to support configuring network interfaces of virtual Ethernet devices (veth).
  • The contents of /etc/hosts are now taken into account when determining the host name from the reverse zone in DNS.
  • The ip6-privacy configuration parameter has been reverted to using sysctl ipv6.conf.default to change settings in the kernel.
  • Added support for using multiple gateways for one network in ndisc.
  • For wireless configurations in access point mode, support for configuring the wireless channel width (channel-width) has been added.
  • Added code to block writing to keyfile of outdated settings with politically incorrect terms master, slave and blacklist.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a crash when processing specially crafted LLDP packets with debug mode enabled.
